Ship Building

Yesterday we took the kids on a field trip to the Essex Shipbuilding Museum. Despite the frigid temperatures, we learned a lot about Essex's ship building tradition, with a lot of hands-on activities such as making wooden ship nails and bending wood.

Our favorite activity was making our own models of "Chebacco" schooners, a boat made in Essex (formerly Chabacco) in the 1700s. For you New Englanders, I highly recommend a visit!

sanding, hammering, tying, placing and painting...
