On Friday night we had a bachelorette/henna party for Saralee... after we all got some "henna" done, all of the "Yemen girls" donned Yemeni outfits and we put on a traditional Yemeni wedding party. The bride's mom even made her a traditional Yemeni wedding dress. We ate lots of good hummus and baba ganoush, then sang and danced the night away.
On Saturday, we drove into the Canadian rockies and spent the day at a campground playing games, telling stories, singing songs and having a barbeque. We tried some traditional Scottish highland games, played "Running Dutch Blitz" and tried to destroy a "wedding zombie". Much fun was had by all!
That night we stayed overnight at a ranch and in the morning we got ready for the wedding. It was a gorgeous day in the Rockies.
A couple more pictures of the gang hanging out...
Phew! Did you get through all that? Until the next Yemen girl wedding.... Masalama!
I would have killed to have henna done at my wedding! I love all the pictures... looks like a beautiful and blessed time!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Brittney! It was such a wonderful time! Henna is so much fun...we used to get it done together all of the time in Yemen. :)
ReplyDeleteSo... what's the story with yemen anyways? did you live there?
ReplyDeleteYes! I probably should have explained that :) My family and I lived there while I was growing up (ages 9-13). They worked at an international school there. I miss it and made life long friends there with the other MKs. :) Thanks for asking!
ReplyDeleteooooo THAT'S AWESOME! I want my girls to grow up outside of the US so your experience really sounds like music to my ears!! Right now we're looking for a live-aboard boat to buy so that we'll be able to help out ministries and possible disaster relief. Maybe I'll write a post about our vision (it's just in it's baby stages right now so there aren't many details). Sometime I would love to hear more about living in Yemen.
ReplyDeleteKerrie! I just saw this blog now - what a sweet reminder of that special weekend. Thanks so much for coming all the way out here for it! And, I can't believe you snapped a picture of that kiss with Jarred.... as a disclaimer, it was a game and I was completely appropriate the rest of the time!!!! :)
ReplyDeletehaha Saralee! You are so scandalous. :) :) :)
