Art Room Diaries - 60th Anniversary Cakes

The small Christian school where I teach elementary art is turning 60 this year. They are celebrating with a big fancy gala and I was asked to help the kids make birthday cake inspired centerpieces for the tables.  The kids worked in groups to paper mache colorful/patterned papers onto a cardboard container and a paper plate.  Then, they coated them with mod podge and glitter for a celebratory sparkle.  They finished them off with pipe cleaner and felt candles and tissue paper flowers. Although not a project laden with much art history or technique, I think we all had fun with it. Happy Birthday NSCS!
